If the weather comes back to normal this weekend, I'll be out for a ride. I'm in St. Albert and if there was interest in a group of people, we could coordinate a ride North of St. Albert. Is there enough interest?
read your blog, glad to see you had a good time in BC. This weekend I'm heading to Jasper for some mountain training of my own. I had a terrible crash racing down in Lethbridge, but I'm on the mend. Glad I've got my Cervelo so I can "keep on ridin'". You're welcome to come out Wednesday, I'll be there rain or shine, but we should get some rides in after I get back, too.
If PsychoMike see this, he might chime in with a weekend ride.
I definitely am getting out...but as I've been crammed in airplanes most of this week (Edmonton - Yellowknife - Hay River - Trout Lake etc), I don't know quite yet how far I'm going to push. I'm not likely to do the trails on the mtb...my legs probably won't be up to a lot of climbing and I haven't found any car wax to seal an autograph yet (I had Gary Fisher sign my Gary Fisher at Mud, Sweat and Gears last weekend).
So, as this will be a cross/road bike ride I was thinking I might try one of three routes. Either from my place just off Whyte Ave out to Spruce Grove or Stony, the Ring Road from Hwy 16 around to Highway 16, or heading east to North Cooking Lake or maybe even Lindbrook (I have a couple potential supporters out there I may drop in on).
If anyone wants to make a group of it, let me know :)
Hello Yesterday I road to Beach Corner from the West End. Big mistake leaving from inside the West End, traffic was intense. It was a good ride though once I got out of the city. I had some dicey moments upon my return into the city near the Anthony Henday and Stony Plain Rd - please do that go that way, way to dangerous. I left from there just because I had a safe place to park my car. The ride ended up being 78.6 km return - so I did exceed the recommended distance per week. I need to find another place to leave from if I go that way again. If it's not too late when are you riding out North this weekend and from where?
Saturday was a run out to Lindbrook for me. I figured Highway 630 would be a little nicer...once you get past RR 222 there is very little gravel and the highway is generally in great shape. Judging by the number of other cyclists I saw, I'd say I wasn't the only one with this idea.
It was a good ride....first time I've done a Metric this early in the year. I have high hopes for the Ride (my legs are a bit weak, but not sore...very promising) . I usually don't start my longer rides until June in preparation for my annual pain-fest in July when I do a long ride while on vacation. It's encouraging as I lost a lot of winter miles due to the ice this year....gotta make up some saddle time.
Did a ride on Saturday North of St. Albert. Was able to do a number of routes through the Barricks/Namao, down Highway for a short stretch, then down a number of backroads into St Albert and back out again. I like it because it feels safer (most speed limits are about 70K) so you don't have the trucks flying by you as much at 120K. Total distance was 45K. It's my new favourite route. Will likely do again next weekend.
I ended up spending a ton of hours on my mountain bike all weekend. This wekend looks like mtb on fiday and a camrose - new sarepta-miquelon loop on saturday. sunday will depend on what's left of the legs on where the bike goes.
