and soon our journey begins

Attached is the link to the Opening Ceremonies of the BC Ride to Conquer Cancer which took place this past Saturday and Sunday.

If you don't view the entire clip, at least fast forward to 11:50 in  because it is a very touching moment that explains the reason I am participating but also why so many of you and all our contributors have decided to join in the fight...

By the way, the BC Ride so far has raised a whopping $6.9M towards Cancer research through the 1,401 riders who are participating.  They have just begun their journey to Seattle a few hours ago.

Looking forward to our journey which soon begins... ARE WE READY???

I'm pretty pumped as well. I woke up at 5:15 this morning and had to go for a ride. Did 18K before work. So far, everything is functioning .... and the bike too!!

Looking forward to it. Legs are getting jittery and my butt cheeks are clenching tighter the closer we get. Hopefully I'm still able to have my P.E.P. before the start otherwise it's going to be an uncomfortable first leg until the rest stop.

Yup, tonight I'm doing the last of the maintenance things and getting everything all packed up for the trip down to the Ride.

(With homage to Major Tom...take you pick as to which version...)

Standing there alone, the bikes are waiting.
All systems are go. Are you sure?
The crowd is not convinced,
but the mechanics have the evidence
No need to abort.
The countdown starts

Watching in a trance, the crew is certain.
Nothing left to chance, all is ready.
Trying to relax, upon their saddles
The riders start to joke, including Tom
The count goes on

4, 3, 2, 1
Road below us,
Whizzing, zipping, cranking freely
Bikes keep rollin' on...

My husband & I came from Edmonton yesterday to drop off the dogs and visit family. I am soooo excited I forgot pj's & my jackets & had to go shopping today. Don't forget clean undies or your helmets folks no. If you forget the undies at least ride downwind of me okay ashamed? Looking forward to hooking up with all the contacts I've made on the massage boards. Hope to see you at breakfast on Saturday. If not we can look for each other at the Bar U Saturday afternoon. biggrin
