Hi all, Just thought I'd start a new thread for 2010 fundraising. Last year there were some ingenious & creative fundraising ideas. My students have given me a new idea for fundraising so I thought I would share.
When teaching a nutrition course I was giving my students tips on how to convert their favorite recipes into healthier choices. They asked if I would write a cookbook with substitutions, recipes, and nutritional information, and suggested I sell them as a fundraiser. (Smart bunch I'm proud of ). So that's what I will be doing. If anyone is interested in the cookbook for their own fundraising or personal use let me know. Not sure yet how much I will charge for them
Well, I don't have any low fat / healthier ones, but I do have some traditional Swedish ones kicking around someplace....like Svensk Plattar (the Swedish mini-pancakes that are awesome with lingon berry sauce ;) )
Okay, this could be fun & we could make the cookbook a RTCC cookbook. I'll have to talk to the folks in the office to see if we need permission. Anyone interested in submitting a favorite family recipe (healthy or otherwise) please feel free. You can email me the recipe (in Word format please) to clann@shaw.ca.
Hey ABS...I have found one version of the recipe, but I am looking for the original that was tucked away nice and safe for the move. I'll get you something soon, though :)
Any word from the official channels on the "RTCC cookbook" angle?
Also, I'll send you that recipe soon...I just have to try to figure out a way to cook them without the traditional pan (most people won't have one). Maybe a metal cookie cutter would work....hmmmm.

If you can send me a description of the traditional pan (or maybe a picture if you have one) I can probably come up with an alternative. That is what I have been doing for the past 2 years, & I have gotten fairly good with improvising and substituting . At least I am told that the results of my experimentation has been successful. . Haven't had a chance to talk to the good folks at the office yet. I'll do that next week when things slow down at work. My students are donating bottles to help pay for the binding of the cookbooks (What a fabulous bunch ). Bring on the recipes folks.
Basically, it is a thick cast iron frying pan with 7 - 3" diameter x 3/8" deep circles in it. You put the batter into the circled so you get 3" diameter, not too thick pancakes out of it.
Alrighty then, I spoke with the good folks at the ride office and they loved the idea of a cookbook for fundraising. We can use the Ride logo, but we need a disclaimer that we are not employed by the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and are just raising funds for that charitible organization. I will take care of that in the flyleaf of the book.
So bring on the recipes folks. Make them family favorites, comfort foods, quick & easy, healthy, or your particular speciality. I think it would be a nice idea to have a little history of you &/or the recipe & maybe a little bit about why you chose to join the RTCC to include with the recipe.
This is sounding great! My husband makes amazing fudge that I have been using as a fundraiser so I'll get the receipe for the book. He does a regular sugar one and also a splenda version - it is amazingly fast and easy to make.
Will send it as soon as I can get him to write it down!
Okay folks, I am working on the cookbook and have come up with the following categories: Appetizers & Sauces, Breakfast/Brunch, Breads, Biscuits, and Muffins, Main Dishes, Side Dishes, Desserts, Candies, Squares, and Cookies, & Healthy Substitutions.
I really need your help with recipes for the Desserts, candies, squares, & cookies categories. If anyone has favorites for those , or any of the other categories, please send them to me at clann@shaw.ca.

I had no idea the fundraising potential this idea would have. I have told my "donors" that for any donation of $100 or more I will put the name of their loved ones who have been afflicted with cancer on my jersey, and take them on the ride (in spirit) with me. The interest has been phenomenal. This just solidifies why I am doing this ride, and I'm humbled and honored to take them with me.
Awesome :) Sounds like you'll be hitting the min in no time ;) On a positive side here, it sounds like I may have a hit with the chainmail goodies. Already have interest from the folks at the company across the hall....now I just need to get some more charms and get making more chainmail :)
I'm still thinking I may get big into the team spirit and do some extra chainmail for the bike ;)
The Cancer Crusader cookbook is complete. I am in the process of printing and binding. Whew, that was a jub getting it done before Christmas, but well worth it. They will make great gifts selling at $10 each. There are lots of healthier recipes, nutritional information on most recipes, and a section on healthy substitutions. Many of the recipes are suitable for beginners, so this is a great gift for just about anyone. Let me know if you are interested in ordering some.
Am planning to start motivational speaking in the new year on making positive changes to your life. If anyone knows of any organizations that may be interested in having me speak to them please let me know. I need some practice before signing up with an Event Planning agent. Any funds I receive will be donated to my Ride.
The cookbooks look simply awesome. After getting them set up for our system here, my "trial print" and binding nets a roughly 5 1/2 square little book, so two per everything made for an 11" page. You did a fantastic job with them! :)
