Training Ride

Hi Everyone!

I'd like to put together a training ride in the Drumheller area for late May / early June.  The badlands has fantastic scenery and a number of great routes!  We're only about 2 hours from Calgary.

Start and end the day by meeting at Wayne.http://www.ghosttowns.com/canada/alberta/wayne.html

Visit the Rosedale Suspension bridge, the old worker link to the Star Mine many years ago.

Travel West to Drumheller and see the Worlds Largest Dinosaur

Follow North Dinosaur Trail past the Royal Tyrell Museum, past Drumhellers beautiful golf course out of the valley to Horse Thief Canyon.

Continue the ride and descent back down into the valley to the Bleriot Ferry where you will cross the Red Deer River.

After crossing the river you'll continue peddling in the valley and take one last climb back to the top of the badlands.  The ride takes you down a beautiful return to the valley on secondary highways 837 & 575.

Finish your day by travelling out of the town of Drumheller back to Wayne.  Stop into the Rose Deer Hotel for a beverage, or stay for dinner where you actually cook your own steak!

Here's the ride mapped out.

I'm in depending on the date, and perhaps the expected pace.....

There could be a variety of paces really.  I'll give everyone very good directions on the route and then people could go as fast or casual as they would like.  I'm not a super fit rider so I'll probably be a slower speed.  I also ride a mountain bike which will put me behind those of you with road bikes but I'm okay with that.

I wonder how many people here are also involved in the RONA MS Ride?  That's the date for day 1 of that ride...

The 18th might be better then.

12th would suit me. The folks doing the MS Tour are already getting their training ride in!

My partner and I might head up that way. Perhaps our next major training ride we could go from Calgary to Drum? Hmmm. That has possibilities.
