Can anybody tell me what my options are if I can not raise the min 2500? Time is getting short and have raised only 735. One option I am thinking about if I'm short, I'll drop out. I would like to ride and nothing less. yes I know theres still time, but i'm running out of people to ask. The song from the Beatles "HELP!" describes my situation. Thx's to everyone that has supported me so far.
Join up with us and help out with our team fundraising and training and we will get there together... team "Dragon Fliers" fundraising is easier then some of the hills... lol
Don't be discouraged you have raised more than me! :) Last year we signed up really late (around April) and I ended up raising $3500. The funds really start coming in when people realize that the ride is so close (I was SUPER stressed about 3 weeks before the ride as I think I only had around $1000 - it was amazing how much came streaming in the last few weeks though).
Make sure you go to local stores; they usually give large donations in the hundreds or even thousands. It always seems its the ones you don't suspect that end up donating.
You could also get some friends together and do a BBQ at a grocery store over a weekend. My sister and I did one last year and we raised $1000 in a weekend (and it rained the whole time!) If you do, make sure you have a donation box sitting on the table - we got about $500 just in that box alone and you don't have to give up any of that to the store. Most grocery stores have a "sign-up" list - just go to the customer service desk. I know for sure that most Wal-Marts and Sobey's do weekend BBQs (sign-up sooner than later though, slots fill quickly).
I also recommend joining a team if you haven't already - we are all riding for the same purpose. I know in my team everyone is going to hit the $2500 mark; we help those who may be falling behind. We are doing lots of BBQs, and other events to ensure we all meet our goals...
I really don't think you should drop out - you are almost 1/3 of the way there and you still have over 3 months to fundraise!
My fundraising is going a lot more slowly this year than last year. Many people that responded instantly to my first email seem to be ignoring it this year! I am about to go around at work and make a personal plea to those people! I am intrigued by the suggestion of going to local stores. How does one go about doing that? Which stores? Would you go to the customer service dept?
I personally started with businesses where I knew the owners or management.
I took in a donation sheet, asked to talk with the manager/owner and explained what the ride is and where how their contribuitions would help. I also add in, that for a large donation we would make them our team sponsors (I would have a specific amount in mind to push that).
It might be a good idea to call ahead and make an appointment if you can...
Most places have charitable donations in their budget so don't be affraid to ask. 2 places donated $500, 1 $250 and I am still waiting to hear back from 2 others.
Each business is different I would assume - I stuck with what I know; small locally-owned stores, and dealerships as I know that business and a lot of people in it.
Don't be affraid to ask - the worst they can say is no.
