Mckenzie Towne Rider

Hello everyone,

So I formed a team called Oxford Blues and so far I have me, myself and I on the team.  The three of us all train together, but would be interested in training with others as we never have alot to say to each other that is new. wink  So if anyone is looking for a team to join or just to train with when all this snow leaves let me know.  My e-mail address is john.morrison@shaw.ca

have a great one and enjoy

John

Hey John:

I also live in McKenzie Towne, and I'm itching to get on my recently-purchased bike (shoes, etc.). I'm just over in Elgin, so you can reach me at mgaffney@shaw.ca.

Although we got dumped with more snow, I took the mountain bike out on Sunday just so I could ride.  Didn't think the road bike would do well in the snow.  Looking forward to training soon Marty

Okay so not many people from teh Mckenzie area riding or maybe not reading to train yet.  Slow and sure is how I look at it as the people on the pond must be getting annoyed of me ringing my bell as I keep passing them over and over.  Need to branch out I think.

Hi guys. Another Mckenzie-ite here (but the other side of Deerfoot). My one outside ride so far was on the Bow river pathways between 22x and Canyon Meadows bridge. Makes a 17km loop with two good hills (the road to Mckenzie Meadows golf course is a fun climb and a *really* fun descent). Two loops finished me last weekend (I blame the north wind!!).
It can easily be extended by continuing north to the next bridge (Southland drive, I think) which I was planning to try on Saturday (weather-permitting). I think that would take it over 20km per loop. I'm at mikehammond@shaw.ca - let me know if you'll be out this weekend.

Cheers, Mike.

Hello Mike,

Hey would love to join you on that loop as I like riding along there.  Last summer I took that pathway and rode downtown for work.  This weekend however you may have to call me a sissy as it looks like it will snow or rain so I might stick inside to the exercise bike.

Let me know if you still ride this weekend and never know I might be brave.

Enjoy
John

I'm also in McKenzie Towne, and this will be my first ride.  Any support and a training group will be very welcome, especially once the ice and snow are gone.  Looking forward to riding with you all.

Shavill, Welcome and any questions let us know. Is that the bike you will be using?

Morrisjo, good question! Shavill, he asks because part of the route last year had rumble strips that made it a little more difficult for the trike recumbent bikes.

those strips plus the at times narrow shoulders. :) But I think I did see at least one or two last year.

There were a good number of trike recumbents...I know of 2-3 blue ones like the one in Shavill's pic, plus one yellow. There were also a few 2-wheel recumbents in the mix ;)

I'm not from Mckenzie Towne but still super close. I am horrible when it comes to cycling and defintely need to get in some training rides. If there is going to be a training group in the south this year that would be great. Last year I ended up  in Tuscany and only went once because it was such a long drive.

I won't be getting out until the snow clears but please include me in a training ride. my email is tnola394@mymrc.ca

Hey Terri-Ann I am not that great either compared to the rest of the group, I like to refer to myself as the caboose at times. However last year we would do rides from Spruce Meadows to Bragg Creek and back again. Or from Okotoks out to Millarville, so we would be happy to have you join us on rides and hey if you are not on a team feel free to join us, we are Spin to Live. relax.gif

I'm in the deep south too, Lake Chaparral, and would love an email whenever a training ride will be taking place in the south.

This is my first year participating in the ride, and I don't really know what to expect. I'd be happy to join you at the back of the pack.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner.  Yes, I'll be riding the recumbent trike.  I wasn't sure if that would be okay, until I drove the route during last year's ride, and saw one person on a similar trike.

Rumble strips should make my teeth rattle!  Oh well, its all for a good cause.  Looking forward to some real rides soon.

Feel free to e-mail me when you're organizing rides.

Steve

So, the snow is more or less gone . . . anyone willing to organize a "starter" ride? I'm nervous about my ability, but also looking forward to getting out there.

Hey Steve and all

Sorry I didn't respond last week but was out of town most of the week and played catch up through the weekend. I have an exam I am writing tomorrow (Weds) and then back out of town for this weekend. The following weekend I will be up for a ride as long as someone doesn't mind towing me on the way back ashamed.gif  Yes I am out of shape compared to last year, but I am sure my great teammate will pull me, right Renee.

So I promise rides on the 10th or 11th.

John

You can draft behind me any day John! What do you guys think about doing the Spruce Meadows/Bragg Creek run next weekend?

It's a good distance for starters, 35k one way with the coffee shop resting point.  A few hills but nothing too drastic.

I'm in the Heritage Park area, but I'd be willing to drive down to go for a ride.
