South Calgary Training Rides

Hey,

Just wanted to see if there is anyone on here that lives in south-central Calgary that has a small training group?

I am a solo entry in the Ride, but am looking for a group to do some training rides with.

Hello

I am also a solo rider and live down in the south but was planning when the weather got better t be making it down along the river paths to Princess Island park etc< so I would be more central if you guys wanted to do a group ride.  There is also another here in McKenzie I could probably convinvce to do that distance.  :)

Let me know

Hey Guys!

I'm the same... except in North Calgary. I could easily be convinced to meet up anywhere as I am really nervous about my level of fitness and this EPIC ride. So shall we meet up? I just got back from Vancouver and I will tell you this weather makes me a little sad. Can we set something up for the next few weeks? I could definitely make it down to princess island park. Where else were you guys thinking? OH and if any NorthWest... Edgemont Rider is reading this.... can you say training buds!

Kristy,

I could easily meet at Princess Island, and I am open to anywhere you want to go.
I have a few ideas, like ride to Chestermere,  Did you know you can get there by only using the bike pathway.  It is very flat, but sometimes the wind can be ugly.
I'll try to e-mail you Monday Eve.
Karen

Hey Kristy,

Although I live in McKenzie I work up in the NW and once the weather gets good I will be out in Edgemont riding on my lunch hours, but for now it is the in door bike at the Edgemeont club.  I like the hills up here for riding.

Hello Blair,  It was great meeting up with you guys on Saturday. That was a great day for the ride. Our Group had Marty, Kristy, Karen and myself John.  I would be more than happy to head out with evryone again or who ever would like to ride. However I now know after that ride that I need a Gel seat as the butt was a little sore getting back on the bike today.

Hi everyone. I'm registered as a solo rider also. I had started my training and I bike along the bow river and sometimes up to C.O.P. and I'm going to head to Chestermere on my next day off. I try to bike as often as I can after work and I'd love to have some people to train with, and help push me. If anyone is interested let me know. stacypattison@hotmail.com

Hello Stacy

You are more than welcome to join us in rides.  A few of us rode out to chestermere two weeks ago and last Saturday I teamed up with another rider and we did from Mckenzie to the zoo and back just before it rained.  We are trying to get out each saturday although Karen will be biking the Golden Gate bridge this weekend.

Hey Sparky

There is a group of us that is doing a ride on Sunday and our goal is Spruce Meadows to Bragg Creek.   We are all average riders and solo riders, not racers so the invite is open to you or anyone else that wants to join us on Sunday at 8:30.  If anyone else wants to join us e-mail me at john.morrison@shaw.ca.

enjoy
John

I'm with John's group - and I have to say it's a great one to join for training. I think this Sunday we are planning on going to Millarville to eat pies - then come home. So anyone looking for a fun group that likes a laugh - this is the one to join. Just grab John's email from above.

Hello,  I am also a solo rider and haven't done very well at biking out there in the real world so to speak unless we count the harsh road rashes getting stuck in my clips. I am in braeside area and would love to join a few riders any help and/or company would be great. My email kbrenda@shaw.ca

Hello Brenda  We would be more than welcome to have you join our rides.  we are mainly all based in the south and do rides in the south.  We also have two riders who have experienced the falls with feet still clipped in.  But I won't mention Marty and Kristy's names in this.  biggrin

Hey Brenda,

Don't worry about the road rashes from not getting out of the clips...it's part of the learning curve. I'm pretty sure I flopped over a couple times coming to a stop when it wasn't second nature yet. :)

Nice video, Morrisjo. The not to serious part is obvious at the 0:28 mark ;) Love them extreme close ups on the butt cheeks eyepopping.gifrofl.gif

Still, looks like the route will cover some nice country :)

hey mike, so I chickened out today on the 100km and did 73km instead to Bragg creek which i hear the other part of the group that did the main ride got nailed by hail.  One had welts on her leg as she got a blow out on her tire.  Welcome to Calgary riding folks.  headbang.gif

Funny how the same tunes keep cropping up in these videos...this is my compilation from last year's ride; youtube muted the sound due to copy right infringement but you can see it at: http://r2cc.wikispaces.com/Main+Event+Reports

The Cranky Ladies are planning training rides June 5th and 6th leaving from Bowness park riding through the city on the pathways and part way out to Chestermere, 50 to 60 km.  Let me know if you are interested and I will post the times when confirmed.  The four of us would love some more riders and if you want to join our team we are listed under The Crank-Ladies in the team list.  Please join!!!  The more the merrier.  Having a team to spur you on is the best.

Hi,  I am a newbie for the Ride as well and have been training mostly on city pathways. I have been training doing 25-40 km blocks.  Unfortunately, I can only train during the weekdays. I am looking for anyone interested in doing a longer ride, possibly 50-70 km ride such as Glenmore Inn towards Langdon.  If you are interested, please email me calgarybudo@gmail.com (Danielle) or post reply.  Thanks

I am probably looking to ride Saturday or Sunday. I rode a loop out of Pridis last Sunday that totalled 70km with some good hills. I did it solo but would love to have some company. I would also be interested in doing the Highwood pass, as it is the last car free weekend. The problem with that is the pass may be blocked with snow.

I ride at about a 20 - 25kph average pace and would be interested in riding with people at a similar level. I am not part of a team this year and the solo thing is getting a little boring.

The Pridis loop starts at the parking area beside the hockey rink. Go north back to 22X then west on 22X to 762. This is the worst part of the ride in terms of traffic. Ride 762 south to 549 then go east to highway 22. North on 22 to Plummers Road then west on Plummers. Turn north at Pridis Valley Road and complete the loop. There isn't much of a shoulder on 762 and 549 but there is also very little traffic. There are also a couple of bail out points that can take you back to Pridis if you find the ride to long or the weather turns bad. The loop is representative of the difficulty level of the actual ride.

Post here if you are interested and we can make arrangements from there.
