I just registered on line. A heads up for those that need to register, you need to select your "tent mate" for the night. If you are travelling with someone, you're set. If you are like me (going solo) you will be assigned a random partner.
Well, my team mate is out...he signed up with great gumption, but lost the motivation and won't make the minimum. He let me know the other day that I'm pretty much a soloist again.
I guess we're both headed for the craps table now, eh Morrisjo :) Just don't roll snake eyes ;)
hehehe....well, to be honest, I've got quite a background. But I behave when I need to ;) I don't play with hockey masks, bladed gloves or anything like that, if it helps :)
You guys are nuts!!! But so damn inspiring!!!!! Thank you the laughs the encouragement(that I am sure you didn't know you were giving) and the honesty!! I think some of the best people are doing this ride!!! Like you guys!!!!
I decided to take my chances and have a random roomie. I figure it's one night...might as well live on the edge. John - are you excited about our 100km ride tomorrow?
hehehe.... no need to be scared, Morrisjo :) 100km is great fun. Besides, from the video, I'd say you have a good time with it. I don't know if I'll get out tomorrow like I hoped....my legs are pretty bushed from moving :(
Hey I just found out that they are not supplying any kind of cot, foamy or mattress with the tents. They could not tell me what the ground was like that the tents would be set up on either. It could be nice soft grass or hard lumpy dirt. It was suggesetd that we bring something in addition to a sleeping bag but it would have to fit into the one bag allowed. When I did the MS150 in Houston, BP supplied their 400 riders with BEDS...not happening here...bring a foamy
What ... one bag? They never said anything about one bag... Oh damn I need to buy a way way bigger bag! I already bought my air mattress and battery operated pump! But one bag.... OMG ... how ... hmmm
Ok I called and talked to Melissa... and she told me that it is one bag weight of no more then 35lbs.. you can tie two bags together..eg... your clothes bag and your sleeping bag.. only if the are securely attached and weigh no more then 35lbs together... LOL... so .. I am thinking of what I can do without, because damn it ... I need that air mattress!!!!! ... LOL Oh PS I am stilling looking for a tent mate ...LOL
Psycho Mike ... it's not the clothes ...lol... I find when I ride long distances I get a chill in my legs so I was thinking it would be the extra blankets for my legs...LOL.. and I am an ex girl guide so I always like to be prepared...LOL
Morrisjo... So sorry but I think that you and Psycho Mike will have a fine night and it really did make for an interesting read... maybe next time...lol.. that is if you know you live through it ... hee hee .. just kidding Psycho
I don't know about anyone else but would love to hear from others...I am completely pissed about this whole minimun of 2500. Before i registered i asked those specific questions, what happens if....etc.....And her response to me was that they put that minimum in there so that people will work hard to raise their money. But if you do not raise enough and they see you have been making an effort they will make that exception. I have since learnt differently. Then when i went to the orientation they told me they could arrange to get Lori Ann Munzer to come to my school and give a presentation to our students....this has been over 3 months! and still i send e-mail after e-mail to the team leader and a week ago they appologized and said this was not possible. And if that was not enough!! My husband may not be able to ride because of a recently discovered medical condition....he has made him minimum and i am just short 400.00. So i asked them if i could ride on his behalf if he could not. Even though we each paid our 75.00! we could not, they said it was not transferable!! We are very dissapointed at the way this has been handled...Not sure yet if we will ride this year, we still feel accountable to all of those that have supported us and donated $$ but very upset about the ride. If this is what it is like next year, we won't be riding...

Corries...hehehehe. I'm a former boy scout, cadet and former member of the reserve...I've had to really watch what I'm packing too :) I'll keep Morrisjo alive and kicking...don't want to deprive the Ride of him for next year ;) To be honest, the nickname stuck after an incident at work and I've tweaked it into the screen name I've used ever since. :)
Angele, I'm sorry you have had such a poor run of things. I don't know if it was the person at the orientation or what, but somehow you got some weird info at the start. At the orientation I went to they were really, really clear about the minimum and I just about didn't sign up as this is my first ever charity ride and I didn't think I would hit the minimum mark. I hope you do ride and that the experience makes up for the sour taste in your mouth right now.
angele... I understand your frustration. My daughters and my son in law signed up to do the ride with me and then did pretty much nothing in the fundraising area. I did alot of team fundraising and then my youngest daughter told me she knew she could not make the 2500 and she didn't have the time due to school to fundraise or train. Then a week later my oldest daughter and her husband announced that they were also dropping out because they couldn't make the min. either ... but I had done all this fundraising for the team and the cheques were in the mail. And without some more serious fundraising I was not going to make my min either, because I had been focusing on the team. So I called and talked to them at the office and explained what was happening and they said the best that they could do was try and catch the cheques. They missed a major cheque and applied it to the team.. so I called and they are trying to fix what they can of it... but I did learn a lesson or two... 1. They need more experience in dealing with these weird situations.. 2. That they are just people doing the best they can with what they have been given to work with!!! I hope that you can see past your frustration and remember the reason that you signed up! I wish you all the best and I am sorry to hear that your husband is not well. My thoughts are with you!
Well Put Corries, I agree I think they are running with a small amount of staff working the office and that they are trying their best to ensure everyone gets what they need while still trying to help others.
Corries I am sorry you are loosing some of your team and if it gets to just you and you need people to ride with we have a good group ranging from the fast ones(right Lori :) ) to the slower ones (me), so you are more than welcome to hitch along.
Thanks John, I went for a training ride with Nigel's training on the 14th and a rider offered to let me join up with her group which also turns out to be Linda Mikelson's group..cancer busters... I joined I couldn't handle the idea of doing this all alone.. I really don't know anyone real well in the group but I feel better about the situation! I would like to the honor of meeting both you and Psycho Mike ...LOL... I feel through the discussions that I have kind of gotten to know you both a little. I hope to see you at the finish line!!! Tammy
I should be pretty easy to pick out during the preliminary stuff....I'm doing double duty, so my bike will have both panniers (first aid kit and bike repair stuff), I've got 2 patches above the flag on the left sleeve and I'm wearing a picture on my right sleeve of the fellah I'm riding in memory of...it's the same picture as on my participant page.
I did sorta the same thing, CP....I had a solo team going, had a friend join, but his heart wasn't in it....so I slotted over to Spokes for Hope as I sorta know one person there and they are a little more local to me.
I'm bike 1201. I'm not going to be the fastest guy out there (especially with all the gear in the panniers), but I'm going to try to improve on my time from the last time I did 200 km, so I'll be trying to set a moderate pace if I'm not in a gaggle of Spoke for Hope types ;)
Okay John, you should be pretty hard to identify as the rest of us will also be huffing & puffing going uphill & cheering going down. Other than that, I can't wait to put faces to you all, and really look forward to meeting you. My team name is Mark's Maniacs so we should get along fine with "Psycho Mike" (Muhahahaha yourself) LOL. See you there. It's getting exciting.
red riding hood... left you a private reply... click on your name to get it I think... If not ask Psycho Mike he'll know how to get ... I am also still looking for a tent mate..
Good luck to all of you like me on the random tent draw!! I'm in the same boat. I think we will all need internet connection on site to check back to this link to see if there is a major SOS call to get a new tentmate. And don't worry Morrisjo, we'll know if you need a new tent mate .. we just need to follow the screams. See y'all there!! Getting pumped for the big day.
PS - Making a new post - should be interesting ...
Hey Corries, got your message sounds good to share a tent for the night.... don't worry I don't have quite the background or anything psycho about me lol
Thanks Morrisjo.... it was the only okay looking redhead one
I just had a brainwave. I am starting to pack and was about to haul out the big old suitcase when I thought about the weight restriction. So instead, I emptied the old hockey bag and will be using this instead - lighter and flexible for stuffing everything in it.
Hey Red .... maybe I am doing this wrong but it can't find you when I ask it to search for you ... so please try and find me .. in the tent assignments ... Tammy Cann...email... tlcann@nucleus.com... personal ID # 630169 ... I hope it works better for you !!!
