Mike, I haven't been able to sit down with our Marketing guy yet - at least not the one in charge of sponsorships! I'll try to see when I can give him a call and just chat about the possible things they can do for us before I setup our meeting!
I -do- know that we can get some merchandise for a silent auction or raffles kind of fund raising (e.g. autographed photos of the Oilers gang... not sure what else).
Ugh, the goal of $2500 is looking ever so difficult. Doesn't help one bit that everyone I know are students too and living off Eggos like myself!
Dale, I'll need to put a few more together and get a few more charms before I can spread them around....but sure, once I get a few more together I don't see why not :)
Jeff, good to see you found the Ride forum :) Sounds great with whatever you can set up on the work side of things. Silent auction stuff can come in handy....It may be possible to do a "club" night...sell some tickets to a nightclub and have a silent auction going too...could be a good fund-raising opportunity.
Don't worry about the fund-raising part....team fund-raising events will will help and a table in SUB or CAB can go a long way...a lot of students are willing to cough up $10 for a good cause -> it's not a lot, but you get a bunch of those and it really adds up (don't forget, there are 35,000+ people on campus).
My teammates & I from last year held a pub night & silent auction fundraiser and did quite well. I still have the contact info for the guy that owns the pub. He was very happy to sponsor our event & may be willing to host another this year (he even kicked in Oilers tickets for us to auction off). Let me know if you are interested.
The pub is a sports bar, so if we can get as many sport (we had tickets to games, an autographed print of one of the Oiler players, etc) related items as possible, they do better at auction. We have lots of different stuff though, so if you can get stuff donated to auction that would be great. When we get enough stuff to auction we need to sell tickets in advance (once we set a date for the pub night) for additional fundraising (didn't know they had to be in advance last time, so missed out on that opportunity). We need 3 or more people to help with the silent auction & shmoozing at the pub night too. Think we should meet up to plan this?
I think it is a good idea but I think it may be worth while to see if Jeff can rustle up some stuff from work...sounds like that could be a really good source if we want some sporty silent auction stuff.
If it is in the new year, I'd be down to help out....may even have the "test run" jersey by then to show off ;)
