Looks good Mike!!!!!! So whats the next step to aquire one of these jerseys??? Im in for one for sure. Forgot to welcome Georges to the team........welcome!!
Well, the next step is that we're going to try to get some sponsors so that a) we can help a few folks get to the minimum amount and b) to help offset the cost of the jerseys.
We're hoping to sell off up to 10 slots on the back of the jersey (the rear shield may be scaled waaaaay down or removed) to sponsors for $750 each. If we get all them sold, I figure 80% will go to supporting riders (and get the sponsors tax receipt from the Ride) while 20% will offset the cost of the jerseys / be advertising sponsorship for the team.
Of course, if a sponsor wants the entire back of the jersey, we would be able to work something out...I don't know too many that would cough up a full $7500 for it, but if they are willing to work with the split (say somthing around 70% recieptable/30% ad sponsorship) than perhaps even $5000 would do, though we may need to cough up a small amount ourselves, depending on how many team members we end up with.
If we don't get sponsors for all the spots, we'll either tweak the percentages (perhaps as low as 50/50...but that would be the minimum our sponsors would get a tax receipt for...50%) or we may need to cough up a few dollars out of pocket for the jerseys.
If we wanted to forgo sponsorships, we'd be looking at somewhere in the area of $90 each at present, based on the number of team members we have.
I think I will chat with my bank to see what we'd need to do to set up a team bank account until the Ride. It'll make it easier to deal with sponsorships and the jersey fund.
Wow!! Jersey looks fabulous. Sponsors are a great idea (didn't know that was what you had in mind). I have been selling "memorial spots" on my jersey to anyone who donates $100 or more. If there isn't room on the team jersey I want to wear the ride jersey with those names across the finish line. Hope that won't be a problem for the sponsors.
There is plenty of white space available on the jerseys....the sponsor's logos will be on the back (instead of or possibly with a much smaller shield). I don't see there being any problems at all for the names :)

Hi, Welcome George, Jersey looks great. Mike, do you want us to start approaching sponsors at $750 a slot to put their logo on the jersey? It might take a while to get it filled.... Off to the Birkie this weekend.
Sure....if you know of anyone who may be open, by all means. If they go for it, I'll need a good, clean copy of their logo (either hard copy or a .jpg) so I can get it ready for the jersey maker.
Who knows, maybe I'll see you at the Birkie (I'm one of the St. John Ambulance volunteers with the medical folks).
Wow, I guess I should have been keeping up with the "thread". I just signed on to have a look at what has been happening and saw the photo's and I really like it. Not sure what else you could do... Great Job!!
I hope your happy with it. I can't believe what I'm going to say but we only have less than 4 months to go. Where did the time go? wow! When are we going to order?
Well, now that we have a design, it won't take that long to do them up. Sponsor(s) would be the last remaining item to decide on the back.
I'm open to the team wishes on this....if we want to pay our way for the jerseys ourselves, a group of 10 people would drop the price into the $80US range. We'd be able to then put any corporate donations in as team donations and be able to help team members get their minimums...we could then decide as a team who we'd honour with a spot on the jersey as thanks for their support. Or...we could set something up bank wise (which opens up a new can o' worms) to do team sponsorship stuff.
Anyway...I'm kicking off my office program here pretty quick and I'm still going with the cookbooks....I should start moving pretty soon. Jason, Dale and Annette, you three have been cooking and Jen is going great guns too! Wow :)
Just as an FYI... I got off the phone with my bank and they do have a community account we can access.
As we are a temporary group, they can set up an account with a letter outlining who we are and what we're doing...so we wouldn't need to be our own non-profit group. If we go this way, I'll likely email a copy of the letter to everyone and have as many of you read, sign and return copies to me as possible. Then all we'd need to do is get several people to the bank to act as signatories (probably need 2-3 to sign cheques). If we go this way, any sponsors could write a cheque to the team and we'd then do a team donation on their behalf and manage the funds for the jerseys.
Hi Mike: You do not have my e-mail,are you haveing a meeting on Sat.20th.I work part time at London Drugs at west ed my hours are 12:00 to 4:00 on Sat. Also, Michael, I have requested information from the meeting on Saturday just as far as what was discussed, what sort of fundraising ideas were brought up or anything those of us who werent' at the meeting should know about.
Also, were you able to take my Arbonne fundraising info with you or bring it up?
Stuart....I'm sorry I missed the messages. I didn't get a chance to check the board :(
Jen, I sent it to work and ended up not being able to print it off. I'll include what you sent in the meeting minutes that I'll be sending out tonight or tomorrow. (is your email working now?)
Bank account set-up is started. Annette, Katy and Solange, if you get a chance, jsut drop by the bank. Let them know at the front you're there to sign cards for the Cancer Crusaders and they will have everthing there.

Stuart
Yes, the email is working again so feel free to send whatever you can to my email.
Also letting you know that after a few attempts, I never did hear back from OneMatch which is too bad. I think we could have worked something really good out.
June may be a little late to get funds down to the Ride to make the cut-off. Even so, sounds like you're right on top of them. Feel free to drop me an email with some additional info and we can definitely see about making it work:)
Jen, glad to hear you're getting your e-post again ;) too bad about OneMatch....it would have been nice, but "plenty of fish in the sea" as they say...we'll keep working on others :)
Hello everyone! I just wanted to say that I received the minutes from the meeting last weekend and it looks like you all had some terrific ideas for fundraising. I will definitely try to make myself available for things such as the hot dog stands, pub nights and I also purchased a bike bag.
Once you have your fundraising ideas in place, let me know and I will see if I am available to help.
Also, as Michael said, if anyone is interested in hosting an Arbonne party, please contact my sister to set something up. I will be hosting a party probably mid April as April is Cancer Awareness Month! I will let you all know when that is in case you want to come.
Hi Mike, if no one has claimed those tires, I may be able to make use of them. I did purchase a used road bike and the tires that are on the bike look like they have seen a lot of time on a trainer, they have a flat spot running around the middle.
Dale - Georges has first dibs...I've seen the tires on his bike and he's hurting for tread, sidewalls, etc :) If Georges pickes up something before I can hook up with him to get him the tires, then they're yours.
Hey all, Well from bad news to worse news. I have been trying to get hold of Dave at Beer Hunters to host our fundraiser Pub Night without any luck. I was told he should be back in town tonight, so will try again. On the other hand (or knee as it were) it doesn't look like I will be able to do the ride. I am waiting for the MRI, but both my Physiotherapist & Dr think I have torn the MCL as well as the meniscus in my knee (that is a tear in the cartilage of the knee) . If the tear is bad enough I will probably have to have surgery, AKA no ride for me . Will keep you posted, but even if I can't do the ride I will still help in any way with fundraising for the team.
Hi all, I am in Vancouver today. Plan to go on to take the ferry on Monday and ride around Victoria for 4 days and back to Vancouver on friday. so my training should be good this week. I will sign the Bank of Montreal papers after Easter.
Cheers ladies...Solange, have fun out on the island :) We've actually got some good weather here the next couple days....I may try to find a mount for my new rear light (1W LED tail light) and see about starting to commute.
Now, all I need is my hubs... I want to get the wheels built so I can overhaul the CX bike...it's good, but I think it can be a lot better :)
Thanks all, I will do my very best to rehab the knee. Both my trainers are babying it & working the upper body. If & can't pedal maybe I should consider a hand bike with all the upper body training (this is me positive thinking).
I can't get hold of Dave at Beer Hunters, so think we should go with the other 2 pub nights at Schanks & Union Hall. Let me know what you all think. Mike, I'll get over to the bank to sign the papers this week. Sorry, had a busy weekend & didn't get there on Sat.
Really sorry to hear about your knee Annette, but I do like the positive thinking routine. My family knows all to well that the doctors don't always know everything. Sometimes you have to heed what they say and other times take it with a grain of salt. I hope you won't need any surgery. Go easy!
Get well soon, Annette :) If you need a contact for a handbike, let me know ;) I think I have some contacts. You'd be one of the very unique pedalers there this year if you went that route :D
Sorry to hear about your knee Annette!!! Remember the Dr.s don't know half of it!!! If I went by what they said I would have been in a wheel chair from the time I was 12. And then again back in 1999 they said I would be wheel chair bound by 2004 and guess what it is 2010 and no I will not run any marathons but I can walk just like a normal person most of the time!! Arthritis does me in some days so I limp a little... so what! I am still walking and I hate to say this but they were almost right the last time because I did everything they said and in Nov of 2008 I could not walk a block, I could not do any stairs without help, I remember deciding to do this ride and my doctor told me there was no way that I could do it! My Chiropractor told me I shouldn't do it, because if I fell who knows what kind of damage I might do. I have a habit of hurting myself badly....lol... in falls. I went to the gym and the first month I knew I was crazy 2K on the stationary bike and home for a nap! Nothing else! How was I going to do 200K in two days if I couldn't do more then 4k in two days? I was going to be the joke of the ride! Then the Wednesday before the ride I fell .. remember what I said about me and falling... and I burst the sac under my knee cap! But I didn't know that is what I did... all I knew is that I was black and blue and my knee hurt but I could still walk and I could still pedal .. not pain free.. but compared to the pain to get to that point is was so small.... So I rode on the Saturday and I did 91K out of the 106K and I could barely walk when I got into camp! Sunday they didn't want me to ride at all, but I did and I did 46K out of the 81K! And I had ice pack strapped to my knee most of the way! Then came the after....the docs said that I tore my mencus (can't spell it today) and that I could do nothing and they meant nothing until my MRI... and I got a second opinion and that doc said I strained everything in both knees ... No bike, no workouts, no stairs, no carrying anything, no life for 2 to 4 months to allow them to heal! And the healed now I wear a brace on the bad days when I am working out and I found some exercises just for the knees to stregthen them! The moral of this story is always get a second opinion and go with your gut!!! Nobody out there knows your body like you do!!!! I have my fingers crossed for you!!!! Sorry guys for the long long story! Tammy
Hi Annette, Glad to hear you want to ride. My knees don't allow me to run too far, that's why I started to ride more often and longer distances at a slower pace. It is not a race. Think of it as a fun 200 km weekend ride with a great supporting team and of course good food and entertainment. Riding 200km did give me lots of time to reflect on why and who I am riding for. It will be another emotional weekend.
Maybe the 24th after my ride with Mike we can all meet for drinks .. just a thought I am glad to hear that things weren't as bad as they thought!!! I look forward to meeting you and riding with you! Tammy
Okay all, I just found some exciting info from my trainer. He got me the following website www.charitysolutions.ca that provides one of a kind items for charity fundraising auctions/sales. There is a reserve bid & anything over that we get to keep. They have some amazing sports related autographed pics & other cool stuff I was thinking would be great for our Pub nights & silent auctions. Do you want me to get some items from them? Take a look at their inventory & let me know. I will arrange for it.
I was looking through their site the other day. My only question is how high are the reserve prices? Because if they are prohibitively expensive, then it might not be worth it.

If the weather holds out for the 24th of April, why don't we schedule a training ride for that day? What kind of distance would we like to do? And what kind of pace?
I've already got someone (Corries Pookie from Team Dragonfliers) who I'm going to be doing a ride with...you're welcome to join us. We're aiming at about 40km (maybe a bit less due to time constraints) and nothing outrageous for pace or hills.
I am sure we can make it a group ride if folks want to come along. Probably go from Millwoods up to St. John Ambulance near the Municipal Airport. At this point, it's looking like a 10am or 10:30 am start.
I think that should be ok, are we traveling through the city? I may have to change my choice of bike :S
I'll throw that date/time on my calendar. We should see who else we can get out. Keep the valley in mind for a trip as well. It's got everything required for a good ride. But I know that you know that already :P

I'd love to delve into the valley, but Tammy's knee is in recovery mode, kinda like Annette's. No big hills on the menu as a result. I'm thinking 34 Ave - 91 Street bike corridors, Mill Creek paved to Mill Creek Pool, walk up to the surface streets, down Whyte or 84th Ave to 109, across the High Level and then down Rail Town, past Oliver Square onto the Bike Highway and end up near St. John / the Muni. Then back.
If time is an issue, we can start on 54 Ave and 97 street near my work. Mill Creek is nice and scenic, the HLB gives a good view of town...some nice spots and an opportunity (if folks are up to it) to ride Whyte and see the copper and blue mile :)
We're likely only looking at recreational speeds....I don't want to tax folk's health by stepping it out too much. I've got a good base coming along and it should be pretty decent by then....but my goal is not to drop anyone (esp. Tammy who doesn't know the town :) )
