Dale, great job hitting the minimum!!

Katy, keep up the great work! I'll be there on the 8th to help out with compost.

Tammy, it's up to you. I think we'd all be happy to have another face on the team and Jason could use someone to train with that isn't 350 km away ;) Perhaps with the two of you in Calgary, you'd have a bit of help with ideas for fundraising there? If you decide to go for it, then by all means, just let the Ride Guides know and they'll add you to the team :)

Michelle, I don't know if you're in here yet, but welcome to the team. It was nice meeting you at the Training Ride :)

George, hopefully things down east work out for you. Keep us posted.

I think I'll have a few Union Hall tickets worth to deposit to the bank in the near future. Don't forget, if you have anything for the team account, let me know....I can get you the account number and I'm trying to keep track of the deposits and withdrawls.

Tammy, joining the team would be great. Ive got a few cook books left (38) and that will get you kickstarted on the fundraising.

With this snow the outdoor rides have been almost non existant. Thank goodness for the indoor spin classes and weight training.

Dale - no worries about not making it out....I am a fair weather rider too which is why I stayed in and just hit the stationary bike for only 10K. Some is better than none! So I will be going out tonight as long as the rain stays away if you want to join (or if anyone wants to join) probably around 7'ish.

Still waiting for specific info on all the fundraising events planned so far to see if I can participate. Katy, I will email you and get the info on the compost sale.

Stuart, I will email you hopefully to get more info on the pub nights.

Any other bigger training rides in the forecast that anyone knows about?

Jen

Jen,

The team page (www.conquercancer.ca/goto/Cancer_Crusaders) has a bunch of the info...though I need to add some of the times for Schanks.

Thanks Mike - I have never been on the team page (?) I think maybe I need to continue keeping up with everything so I know what is going on! I will check it out this morning.

Also, just sold my first 5 bags of compost!

Anyway going out for a "longer" ride this weekend anywhere?

Ok - now I feel back in the loop! I will be there next Saturday to help with the compost sale.
How much is it usually to get into Schanks? (people may ask) I don't know if you pay to get in there normally? Is this night reserved just for us or that just allows people to get in and participate in the 50/50 and silent auction?

I can be there on the 14th for sure. What do people need help with??? Will let you know about the 15th.

Mike - what are chainmail goodies??? Fill me in and I'll see what I can do!

My training is going pretty well (if you ask me). I am averaging 20km's or so per hour, and it takes me an hour roughly to do 20-25km's. But I've only been actively training for not quite two weeks now so I think it's time to start going a little bit further!

Have a great day all!

Hey Jen,

I've got a few bracelets, key chains and such...all made from linked metal rings (chainmail....like the knights of old used to wear).

As for training, I've got some maintenance to do on the bike (lube, oil and filter wink  ) but other than that I'm game for a bit of a ride tomorrow (Sat). Dunno where or when yet, but I plan on getting out for sure.

Thanks,

Hey Mike - a ride tomorrow sounds good if you are ok with my tag along pace! I am not a 'seasoned' rider and have only been going out in St. Albert and I know that you have done a lot more training than I have so I am fine with you picking the time and place and (depending on the time and place) I should be able to join you. I will check back here later tonight and again first thing in the morning to see what you decide but if I don't respond quickly enough, my number is 780-460-7611 if you want to call and touch base that way.

ALSO, I have been talking back and forth with Annette, Dale, Katy and Solange a bit via emails regarding fundraising (to get myself caught up) and was thinking can we have another team meeting perhaps early next week? I think it would be a great idea to re-group what with all the fundraisers coming up quick so we can be sure everyone knows when and where they are and so that we can figure out who is coming, what they are bringing and what we still need so that we are as prepared as we can be ") It just is a bit hard to keep up with everthing going on when some people are emailing others privately (me included!), some people are posting and replying on here and some information is posted on our team page...just seems like too many places to look to keep up with what's happening. So this is why I think a team meeting would be good. Plus I missed the last one at Tim's (probably cuz it was sent via email and I didn't get it).

Thoughts anyone? We could just pick a day/time/place and encourage everyone to come, if only for a little bit so we can get this all organized.

Jen

Mike - I will be busy from 3 or so tomorrow afternoon onward now so I would have to go for a ride in the morning - GIVE ME A CALL AT HOME IF YOU DECIDE TO GO IN THE MORNING AND I'LL SEE IF I CAN COME 780-460-7611.

I'm thinking I might go for the group ride out of Adrosson Rec Centre-listed under participants centre-training-training calendar. I know Solange and her husband usually go.

Jen, I've got to get some maintenance done on the ride tomorrow morning (I was too busy getting the kitchen back together after this weeks new counter install to get it done tonight)...I'm thinking I may be able to get away from here at 10am-ish and I could possibly ride up. Maybe meet in front of Cranky's for noon?

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Tammy,

There are no members of a team that holds a team back. We are all there to support each other. I'm sure everyone on the team would welcome you with open arms. The only way to make it through a difficult journey is with the support of others. That's why a team is strong, we support each other (much like the support of family & friends when battling cancer). Please join us , we fundraise together and ride together.

Thank you Annette and Solange for the warm welcomes!

Annette,  thank you for the warm supporting words!  I guess you could say I have nightmares of last year when I had a team ... mind you they were my kids, and I met the minimum amount and they were mad at me... but they didn't train and they wouldn't help with the fundraising ... so ... and I didn't want any one to feel towards me the way that I had started to feel towards them... I didn't want to be anyones dead weight...

Well Solange when we meet again I shall have a new bike!  I went to the bike shop here in Calgary and bought a Sirrus 27speed in Black with white writing ... and the best part is the way it moves and handles ... oh my ... I know now that I was driving a dump truck and trying to keep up with Ferrari's ...

Solange can you please say hi and thank you to that wonderful hubby of yours!!!  I really appreciated the support and guidance on the ride last Saturday!!!  Thanks MIKE!!!!

And now Psycho Mike ... how do I go about ordering myself a jersey ... details... please ...

Jen...thanks for showing me the Red Willow trail yesterday....I ended up going for a quick hop back to RL56 and finishing my day at 30km. It was nice to meet you and get out for a ride.

Tammy, welcome to the team and congratz on the new bike. I think Matt with his TT bike (think a true cycling Ferrari / Lamborghini) will be our team hotrod for sure, but it is nice you're not driving a dump truck anymore :)

Jersey wise, I've sent a note to the company that was interested in getting the jerseys for us (full sponsorship of the jerseys) and we'll see what they have to say. If it doesn't look like it will go ahead, we can look at ordering some as a group if folks are interested.

Cheers,

Mike (the Psycho one :) )

Hi Tammy! Welcome to the team!! I think you will enjoy it. I have yet to meet even half of the team members (long story) but so far I have met a few and they are great! It seems like we are all putting in some effort and getting lots accomplished.

Mike, I am glad to you fun yesterday...the trail system is great...I just wish it was longer and had more hills but maybe if I branched out to some of these other ones, I will find that.

I enquired at Walmart today about doing a hot dog or popcorn stand out front and they said all you need to do is book a date (as long as the funds go to charity) and that they will do a donation for the silent auction as long as I take my letter in there so I will get that organized tomorrow. I will probably pick a Sunday or something to get more people and will let you know which one I pick to see if anyone wants to help.

Choa for now everyone!

Jen

Hey you guys,

I'm very sorry, I will not be available this weekend for anything.  No riding, not even the mentioning of bikes.  I forgot that it is my mother in-law's 65th B-Day as well as mothers day and anything else is strickly off limits.  So I will be off to Calgary to hang with the in-laws.  Really I'm excited, trouble is they all smoke and it drives me crazy.  I try to stay in the other room, but it always finds me.  Yuk!

Any way, I hope the weather is great for all and I will see you next weekend.  Dale

Just wanted to formally introduce myself to the team. I officially joined the team yesterday after a bit of encouragement from Solange. I met Solange during training for last years RTCC event. On Sunday I met Katy during a training ride. I will look forward to meeting the rest of you sometime starting with this Saturday's fund raising.

See you then.

Hey all - David welcome to the team!

I will see you all tomorrow as well although I may have a little 3year old tag along if my sitter doesn't call me back! So I plan to be there for 8:30 and stay until the little one gets antsy - probably around noon. I will bring some shovels, at least one pail, one small table and some chairs.

I also thought, do we need maybe some doughnuts and drinks? I can get some for the team???

I do admit, I have been feeling down on my fundraising and training and feeling like I just can't give to the team what I want....have some serious personal issues going on with my oldest daughter, not to mention my boss who some of you know has MDS (myelodisplastic syndrome) since last September and was supposed to have his stem cell transplant next Wednesday but now he has a fungal infection AND the MDS has turned into Leukemia and they can't even attempt the transplant now until the infection is gone and leukemia treated which at best is beginning of July...so....not doing so hot on this end. But trying to keep it together and do everything I need to do to support the team and train for the ride.

SO....I also am going to get a few donations for the silent auction...probably a few gift certifcates and such which I will try to get together over the weekend.

See you all tomorrow morning! Let me know about doughnuts.

Jen

I'm going to bring the bike tomorrow and see if I can hog-tie a shovel to my rear rack :)

Jen,

[Homer Simpson voice] MMmmmm....doughnuts...gghhhhhh (drooling sound) [/Homer Simpson voice]

They'd be a nice treat, but I don't know if my waistline needs bolstering ;)

I know that things can get kinda depressing at times...especially when you are dealing with folks around you who are fighting cancer. It can get you down...but hang in there. We're all here to help support you when you need it, just like you support us when we need it.

Myself, I'm going to keep on going and when I hit my $2500, any extra I bring in is going to help other team members. Hopefully, we'll have some good success with the team fund raising events and we can help folks out that way too. I know from past experience that it can seem daunting, but hang in there....one week can make a huge difference in where you're at :)

Doughnuts would be good.
I'm looking forward to team members working together and working towards a goal.
On the facebook event page I called it "Buy Compost-End Cancer".
The funds to raise do seem daunting but together I'm sure we can do it!
See you'all tomorrow.

Thanks for your support everyone....I will try to persevere with the help of my team!

Tomorrow I will bring doughnuts.....and muffins......you can have your choice. So I may be a bit late (later than 8:30) with a Tim's stop but I will see you all tomorrow.

Turns out I do have to bring my 3 year old (who was sick this morning too but seems to be better now) so we will do what we can!

Can't wait to meet everyone tomorrow.

I got my new bike yesterday!  So pretty ... so smooth... I am looking forward to the Nanton to Chain Lakes ride!!!  This bike rides different so I am hoping to get some time on it before sunday... busy busy week  ...lol...

I hope that the compost sale went well?

Corries,

The compost sale went awsome. We had a good number of team members there (plus a few other volunteers / conscripts), everyone got along really well and it looks like we're going to have a decent return for our time.

Yeah, get out there and enjoy the new ride ;)

Oh...and I can second your impressions of Jason.  When I met him in the fall, I thought he was a good guy too ;)

I think $2,700 was the total compost sale. We've made another $100 from the boksale.
Here's the deal for the rest-It will be at Belgravia Books and Treasures until Fri. Then cleanit/green it will transport it to St. George's Church and 2 voluntteers will sell it.
I'll be one.
It's worth about $800 and is only popular until May 24!
(Not ideal but better than having to get the signs etc again and return them and I talked them into transporting it for us!)
Then it is done
So I'd like someone else to sell 50/50 tickets on sat. with Solange if they can?

Assuming we have enough tickets sold to make it a go, I'll be there and we can float me to where we need me.

Unfortunately, it looks like we need at least 50 tickets sold to make a go of Schanks...I don't know how folks are doing, but it was really sounding like this one may not go :(

Please let me or Matt know where the sales are at by Thursday.

Thanks.

Hello, I'm back in Edmonton and distressed that the pub night may fall due to lack of ticket sales. I hope that it won't be a wash, good fundraiser for all. I'm still trying to sell a few and have some youngsters who are telling me that they may buy on payday which is Thursday, I know that is cutting it close.

Sounds like you all had a great weekend with the compost sales, great final number.

Jen, hang in there.

David and all recent additions, welcome to the Cancer Crusaders.

Thanks everyone for the welcome to the team. Looks like it is going to be a good team to be on after meeting most of the team on Saturday.

Unfortunately this weekend my time is limited. My son is in town for the weekend. He lives in Victoria. So with visiting with him plus training my time to help out with the fund raising events is limited. Saturday night I can't do but I will be there for part of Friday night, as long as the event goes ahead.

Could we possibly do a little "regroup" re: Schanks and Union Hall? Now with Stuart gone, Mike and Matt, do you need help with ANYTHING? To ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible?

I agree that it is a little nerve wracking that perhaps the pub nights won't be as good turn outs as we thought. I know for myself, I have no one interested in Union Hall but more interest in Schanks. I still need to get a final count but it looks like I managed to get 9 or 10 to attend Schanks (including my husband). Not as good as I wanted. Part of it is my own fault for being out of the loop with all those emails.

So what is the numbers count for Schanks so far?

What is the numbers count for Union Hall?

Do we need anything for these two nights? Or are we good to go?

**Also, anyone training this weekend? I need to get out and attempt a 50K ride I think. Although I do now need to go get me some slicks as last night on my ride, I blew my back tire!

Jen

Please check your emails everyone...I sent a note out regarding some recent developments.

Dave from Schanks called me today...we are not going to be able to reach the minimum that they are after (though thank you all for your efforts) so, rather than possibly losing money on the food, it is officially cancelled.

Union Hall doesn't have minimums...what we sell, we keep and we get a "bonus" if folks actually use their tickets.

I guess we can try to exchange folks' Schanks tickets for Union Hall ones, return their funds or hope they will consider leaving the funds with the team as a donation.

Hope everyone can attend the "emergency" team meeting on Sunday May 16 at Dennys downtown (104 Ave & 109 St) at 7:30 pm. We need to try to make time for this. Time is running short & we need to get folks to their minimums. Try to make it out. I will keep minutes and email them to everyone. I think it is important to have everyone in the loop & only one area of focus for communication. We have all seemed to gravitate to the emails, so I will continue on that path. If anyone has any other opinions please feel free to chime in.

Hi Everyone,

I have the joined the team from Saskatchewan.  I can offer my help and support here in the forums until the ride.
I won't be able to participate in the training there, or fundraising, but I am doing my best to do those things here.  I hope to make new friends and help raise money for such a worthy cause, and  I look forward to meeting you all closer to the ride.

Cheers,

Hey gang,

I'm pumped!!!!

I have just received a comittment from my work for a donation in support of the Ride again this year. I don't have cheque in hand yet, but it is a definite thing. It means I've hit minimum (once everything clears the bank, of course) and I may have a little bit to help someone else as well.

Yay!!!

(Ok, I'm done my exuberant outburst...I now return you to your usual Psycho Mike ;) )

Check your emails folks! I have an email indicating that a decision on jersey sponsorship will be made this weekend. The tone of the email was quite positive.
