I want to start spinning classes in Feb 2010 but want to learn the basics and move along with the class not jump into a class only to bonk out Any ideas of where to go in Edmonton that has beginners to med classes that I can progress nicely with? I don't want to not be able to walk for a week
Hey jeff, see that you dont get a lot of answers so let me be first. I go for a long time to the gym in millwoods. Started there on the bike a litle wile ago. They have a spinning class there to , free for members. If you are intrested to go there , to start in the gYm , I, like to help you out. i biked in early days, Im not a pro bud can help you on your way. The gym where I talk about is rec centre in millwoods.
From what I've heard, progressive is pretty rare in spin classes. Although I haven't done them myself, friends who have say you suffer through the first month as you get up to speed and then you're good to go. You may have to "grin and bear it"/set less resistance/do the best you can to start.
I did my first drop-in spin class at the Shawnessy YMCA two weeks ago. I honestly thought I was going to have a heart attack at one point. I still have a couple of months to improve my cardio . . . (gulp!). I made sure that I told the instructor I was a newbie, and she gave me some good tips, and generally "held my hand" through it. At the end, I was pretty proud of myself. It's worth doing.
My butt was numb by the end of the 50 minute class, but I understand that goes away once you build some callouses too. :)
Well Steve you are ahead of me as I have been so busy at work that I haven't been out hitting spin classes or anything else but that changes this weekend as I will kick my butt to get in shape. Maybe even better than I was last year.
Did my second class Sunday, and will be doing my third tonight. The nice thing is that while the instructor lays out the drills, you really make adjustments to meet your own needs and ability level. If you're new, just stay with the lower resistance levels. If you're looking for more challenge, bump up the lever a bit. It really is a personalized workout in a group setting.
