Wow wish I saw this forum last year; you almost have to do the ride multiple times to get a grasp on everything!
My sister and I have started a team, Daddy's Girls last year in honor of our dad, Don, who lost his battle with cancer June 24, 2008. The ride marks an anniversary our family would rather not remember, but being a part of this event and being with so many other people who are/have gone through what we did was the best thing for us and we excited about this years ride.
We are looking to grow our team and we have already recruited a cancer survivor whom we are honored to have join us.
We are located in Sherwood Park (outside of Edmonton) but we are not limiting our search on the area. Anyone can join our team (as long as you can deal with being called one of daddy's girls! )
if you or someone you know would like to be a part of our team please let me know! Thanks so much!
Good to hear you're getting some support, CM. Maybe you can join up with us (The Cancer Crusaders and many other riders) at some of the training rides out at Ardrossan or the Olympiette centre this year.
I (and likely my sister too) would love to! This year we are going to be a lot more prepared and participate more in the training events offered - we were hurtin' pretty bad last year!!
This might sound a little silly - but is there courses or anything for bike maintenance that you know of? Last year we got a flat and although all the other riders are incredibly helpful it would be nice to know how to change it ourselves (or at least have one member who knows how!) I don't even know how to use a airpump, how pathetic is that!!
United Cycle is awesome! The bike techs took the time to walk each member of our team through a tire change (we all went at separate times). In some cases, they made some of the gals actually change the tire themselves, so they not only heard the instructions, they did it all!
I love the team name :) I would SO join, but alas, I am already a Melanhead :)
If you're looking to learn about bike maintenance, nothing beats Bike Works...the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters garage (info at edmontonbikes.ca). They will teach you anything you need to know :)
